Ankle foot orthoses

ACOS Medica

Our services

In our laboratory we make tailor-made AFO (Ankle-Foot-Orthoses) made of leather, an orthosis indicated for paralysis of the dorsal extensor muscles.

The AFO is a useful brace in case of pathologies that can lead to a deficit of the dorsiflexion of the feet: neuromuscular diseases such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome (CMT), muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, hemiplagia after stroke, post-polio and others. This aid consists of a steel sheet, is inserted back into the heel of the shoe and rises to the apex of the posterior convexity of the leg. When the foot rises from the ground, thanks to the springs of the orthosis positioned on both sides of the shoe, it assumes a slight dorsiflexion position, thus allowing the wearer to bring the foot forward without sliding the toe on the ground.

The AFO produced in the Acos Medica laboratory are exclusively made  to measure and are all covered in leather to limit as much as possible any skin irritation and rubbing injuries that could cause in the calf region, especially during summer.
